Captain Cat
Captain Cat joined the army.
He went in when nobody was looking.
猫上尉趁人不注意的时候来到了军营。
The soldiers marched in a parade.
"Left, right—left, right..."
士兵们排着队齐步往前走。
“左，右——左，右...”
Captain Cat kept in step.
He knew one foot from the other.
猫上尉和他们一起齐步走。
他知道该如何一步接一步的走。
"That cat has more stripes than we have,"
said a corporal to a sergeant.
那只猫身上的条纹可比我们肩章上的多，”
下士对中士说。
"Meow," said Captain Cat.
Another sergeant looked at the cat.
"Yes, sir!" he said and laughed.
“喵呜，”猫上尉说。
另一位中士看着猫，
“是的，长官！”他开玩笑地说。
From then on everybody started saying,
“Here. Captain Cat,”
when they wanted him,
instead of
“Here, kitty kitty.”
从那时起，每个人都在叫他的时候
说 “这里，猫上尉，”
而不是 “过来，小猫咪。”
But sometimes the soldiers had no time for Captain Cat.
“I have to clean the bathrooms,” said one soldier.
但是有时候，士兵们没有时间和猫上校多做交流。
“我得去打扫浴室啦，”一个士兵说。
“I have to sweep the grounds,” said another soldier.
“我得扫地，”另一个士兵说。
One soldier named Pete always found time for Captain Cat, even when he was on guard duty. “You remind me of a cat back home,” he said, and scratched Captain Cat behind the ears.“
一位名叫Pete的士兵经常腾出时间和猫上尉相处，甚至在他执勤的时候。 “小猫咪，你让我想家了，”他说着，抓了抓猫上尉的耳后。
Pete played with Captain Cat so much, he got into trouble.
Pete 和猫上尉一起玩的时间太长了，他惹麻烦了。
The general made Pete do kitchen duty.
Captain Cat kept him company.
Pete let Captain Cat play with the potato peels.
“Are you my buddy?”asked Pete.
“Me-ow，”said Captain Cat.
将军让Pete去厨房帮忙。
猫上尉也陪着Pete。
Pete把削下来的土豆皮给猫上尉玩儿。
“你是我的好兄弟吗？”Pete问。
“喵，”猫上校说。
The next morning a bugle blew.
Oh, how Pete hated to get up!
第二天早晨, 号角响起.
哦，Pete讨厌起床。
But Captain Cat sprang right out of bed.
但是猫上尉突然从床上跳了下来。
He had to check out the garbage before it was taken away.
他要在垃圾桶被收走前检查一番。
Then it was time for inspeaction.
Everybody lined up.
然后到了检查的时间，大家排队站好。
Captain Cat lined up, too.
猫上尉也排起了队。
The general fixed a soldier's gun.
将军把一名士兵的枪扶正。
He fixed Pete's hat.
他理了理Pete的帽子。
All he could fix for Captain Cat were his whiskers.
他能为猫上尉整理的，只有胡须。
“Forward march!” said the general.
“齐步走！”将军说。
The soldiers went one way.
Captain Cat went the other way.
He had to chase some birds.
士兵们走这边，猫上尉走另一边。
因为他要去追那些鸟儿。
The soldiers crawled in the mud.
士兵们在泥地里匍匐前进。
They hiked through rain and sleet.
他们在雨夹雪的天气里徒步穿越。
But not Captain Cat!
He was taking a nap on Pete's bed.
但队伍中没有猫上尉，他正在Pete的床上打盹儿呢。
Time for chow!
Pete and the other soldiers rushed into the mess hall to get plates of nice, hot food.
该吃饭了！
Pete和其他士兵冲进食堂，拿一盘又一盘热乎乎的美味食物。
Captain Cat wished Pete would get him a plate with a mouse.
猫上尉希望Pete能给他的餐盘上放一只老鼠。
“Are you my buddy?” asked Pete.
“Me-ow，” said Captain Cat.
“你是我的好哥们吗？”Pete问。
“喵~”猫上尉答道。
Lights out!
Everyone went to sleep and dreamed of loved ones.
熄灯了！每个人都睡着了，梦见了所爱的人。
Captain Cat dreamed of his loved one, too.
猫上尉也梦到了他所爱的人。
